Use flannel fabric for more frayed effect. Cotton is okay for applique.

To make this quilt, you will need:
1 1/8 yard of 3 different fabrics for 9 x 19 background rectangles (use a subtle print)
2/3 yard for 3 different fabrics for 9x9 squares (use a bold print)
3/4 yard for 5x9 rectangle for constant rectangle under bold squares
1/3 yard of 4 different fabrics for border
3 1/4 yard of flannel for batting, use a solid flannel
144 inches of ric rac for stem
1/8 yard of 6 different fabrics for tulip petals
1/8 yard of 2 different fabrics for leaves
1/8 yard of 2 different fabrics for top of tulip
